Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about renting, listing, and getting paid on Roam Golf.
General
Roam Golf is a peer-to-peer marketplace where golfers rent clubs from local players and shops instead of buying a full set. You can try clubs on the course before committing to a purchase, and if you love them, apply your rental toward the purchase price (on rent-to-own listings). Golfers with unused clubs can list them and earn money any time someone rents.
Pro shop rentals are usually generic demo sets. On Roam Golf, you're renting real clubs from real local golfers and shops — often the exact model you're considering buying — and every rental dollar can go toward owning that set if it's a rent-to-own listing.
Roam Golf is expanding to new cities regularly. Use the search bar on the homepage to see what's available near you or in your travel destination.
Renting Clubs
Search for clubs near your location or travel destination, pick your dates, and book. You'll get a pickup code and photos from the lister, meet up (or use shop pickup), confirm the clubs match, and you're ready to play. When your rental ends, upload a few photos of the return condition and you're done.
On any rent-to-own listing, yes. Your rental fee is credited toward the purchase price if you decide to buy — just complete the purchase through the app before or at return.
If the lister reports damage after return, a damage fee is charged based on severity (minor, moderate, or major), and you'll be notified with photos and details. If you disagree with the damage claim, you can dispute it directly in the app, and our team will review both sides before any funds are released to the lister.
A late fee applies starting the day after your rental's return date, capped at 2 late days. Return promptly to avoid extra charges — you'll see the exact late fee cutoff time on your booking page.
If a rental isn't returned, the lister can report it as lost or stolen after a short waiting period. You'd be charged the remaining balance of the club's purchase price (minus what you've already paid in rental fees and any penalties) — effectively converting the rental into a purchase.
Yes. Cancel more than 48 hours before your rental start date for a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours of the start date are not refunded, so double check your dates before booking.
Listing Your Clubs
Create an account, snap a few photos of your clubs, and our tool auto-detects the brand, model, and specs to speed up your listing. Set your price (or use our suggested pricing), publish, and you're live.
Yes, listing is completely free. Roam Golf only takes a small commission when your clubs actually get rented — you never pay just to have a listing live.
Yes — to receive payouts, you'll connect a bank account through Stripe, the same payment platform trusted by companies like Airbnb, Lyft, and Instacart to pay millions of people every month. Your bank details go directly to Stripe — Roam Golf never sees, touches, or stores your banking information. We simply tell Stripe when to pay you, and Stripe handles the rest securely.
Payouts are processed automatically each night after a rental is completed and funds have cleared. You can track pending and completed payouts directly in your Payments dashboard.
Report the damage with photos and a description when the return is being reviewed. A damage fee (based on severity) is charged to the renter, and released to you after a short window — sooner if the renter doesn't dispute it, or once our team reviews a dispute if they do.
Yes, at any time — the renter always receives a full refund if you cancel. A small $5 fee applies to help offset the inconvenience to the renter, deducted from your next payout.
The renter is entitled to a full refund and can cancel penalty-free if you haven't completed pickup setup by the time their rental was supposed to start.
Payments & Fees
Roam Golf takes a 10% fee from the renter and a 10% fee from the lister on each completed rental — 20% total, split between both sides. Listing itself is always free.
Yes. All payments and payouts are processed through Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment platform used by major companies worldwide. Roam Golf never stores your full card or bank details.
Trust & Support
Every booking includes pickup and return photo documentation, so there's always a clear record of condition on both ends. If a disagreement can't be resolved between renter and lister, our support team reviews the evidence and makes a final call.
